I love the crisp, cool air and the beautiful colors! I love the smell of coffee brewing and the beautiful fall decorations that adorn shops and homes, and let's not forget the wonderful candles that come out this time of year, such as Pumpkin Spice and Cinnamon Apple.

Now a confession - while all of those things are what make fall so special, I have to admit that my all-time favorite part of the season is being able to wear coats and boots and scarves. All the time.

Sigh! I just love a beautiful pair of boots, there's nothing quite as lovely as pulling on a pair of leather beauties and heading outside in the cool air with a Pumpkin Spice Latte in your hand!

Here's a peek at some of the fall boots I've checked off my "wish-list" so far, I've added them to my wardrobe and I'm hoping to add some more, soon. By the way, these were all purchased either on sale, on eBay, or from thrift stores. Yes, I'm a savvy shopper!

These are the Bowtied Beauties from Anthropologie, they sold them last year but I happened to find them on eBay for almost half the price, and they were brand new!

These are the lovely Aldershot boots that are being sold at Anthro this year! I love them and I've been stalking them for several weeks but I couldn't bring myself to buy them for the full price. One day I happened to browse through the boot section on Anthropologie and I saw their 30% sale and I knew I had to grab these up as soon as I possibly could.

These are my cute little $25 thrift store find. They are brand new and in excellent condition.

So, I admit that I'm a boot-a-holic. I love seeing all of my boots lined up on top of my closet in a nice and neat row, it just makes me happy! Last year I was obsessed with coats. I perused eBay way too much searching for any cute coat that I could get my hands on, and although I still love coats and have way too many of them, my obsession has shifted to boots this year. Don't laugh.

So, what are on your fall wish-lists this year, or have you already purchased a pair of wonderful boots and you'd like to show them off? I'd love to see your fall wardrobe!

I hope all of you lovely people have a wonderful rest of the week, I'm going to be in Vancouver, Washington so I know that I will be loving my weekend. I get to see my beautiful cousin, Kim, and my cute little munchkin cousins whom I've missed way too much. And last but not least, I get to stop by Symposium for a heavenly treat...a Pumpkin Spice Latte (made with real pumpkin!).

By the way, my iTunes is now loaded with a vast assortment of wonderful Christmas albums and songs. Happy!

I decided to get back into blogging because I think it's better than Facebook and Twitter, at least it helps promote good writing skills. No offense, all of you Facebook addicts. ;-)
Now for an update! There really hasn't been anything too exciting or spectacular going on here in hot, sunny California. I did get a new car and that is pretty exciting (too me anyway).
But I thought I'd sit down today and write a quick "update" post. Although there really isn't much to update, I'll just let you know what's been happening the last couple of weeks.Fox & Willowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12337435403746497154noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7334764133762506463.post-45181864804983676862010-05-04T14:57:00.001-05:002012-05-22T12:42:23.970-05:00Living in the South {Lame, I know}I honestly kind of despise these things, they're like forwards to me and I really, reallllly hate forwards. If I saw somebody's blog and they had this list on it, I'd probably just continue to the next one. Am I rude? Maybe. But since my blog is getting a little stale I thought I'd spice it up a bit with some "humor." Southern humor, to be precise. I lived in the south (Arkansas) for 7 years and boy let me tell you, these are actually really true! There are many, many things that I miss about living there but I won't go into detail and bore you to tears, though I will say that the south has a lot of perks.

Possums sleep in the middle of the road with their feet in the air.

There are 5,000 types of snakes on earth and 4,998 live in The South

There are 10,000 types of spiders. All 10,000 live in The South, plus a couple no one's seen before.

If it grows, it sticks. If it crawls, it bites.

Onced and Twiced are words.

It is not a shopping cart; it is a buggy.

People actually grow and eat okra.

'Fixinto' is one word.

There is no such thing as 'lunch.' There is only dinner and then supper.

Iced tea is appropriate for all meals and you start drinking it when you're two. We do like a little tea with our sugar!

Backwards and forwards means 'I know everything about you'

DJeet is actually a phrase meaning 'Did you eat?'

You don't have to wear a watch because it doesn't matter what time it is. You work until you're done or it's too dark to see.

You don't push buttons, you mash them.

You measure distance in minutes.

You'll probably have to switch from 'heat' to 'A/C' in the same day.

'Fix' is a verb. Example: 'I'm fixing to go to the store.'

All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, grain, insect or animal.

You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked.

You carry jumper cables in your car... for your OWN car.

There are only four spices: salt, pepper, Tabasco and ketchup.

The local papers cover national and international news on one page, but require 6 pages for local gossip and sports.

The first day of deer season is a national holiday.

100 degrees Fahrenheit is 'a little warm.'

We have four seasons: Almost Summer, Summer, still Summer and Christmas.

Going to Wal-mart is a favorite past time known as goin' Wal-martin' or off to 'Wally World.'

A cool snap (below 70 degrees) is good pinto-bean weather.

A carbonated soft drink isn't a soda, cola or pop... It's a Coke, regardless of brand or flavor. Example: 'What kinda coke you want?'

Fried catfish is the other white meat.

We don't need no stinking driver's ed... If our mama says we can drive, we can drive.

This is a very, very important post. The reason? I'm honoring my wonderful cousin, Kim. Her birthday was yesterday. If any of you people don't know Kim, you're totally missing out. Kim's a wonderful person; she's a mommy, a great friend, a college student, a spectacular cousin, a fashionista, a thrift store shopper...can anyone say Superwoman? That basically describes her perfectly. She said once, "You know, being a mom I feel like I can do anything. I could probably fly a plane if I had to." So true! Kim is great at everything she does, including being a great mommy to her four wonderful and adorable children. On top of all of that, she's a wonderful Christian example.

When I was younger Kim was my hero. If she didn't like the color blue, I didn't like the color blue. If she liked lima beans, I liked lima beans. You get the picture. I would follow "Nimmie" around, she was basically my second mother. When I wouldn't let my mom do my hair (which is pretty much ALL of the time), she's ship me over to Kim's house because I'd sit there like an angel (*cough*) and let Kim fix my hair any way she wanted. I remember visiting Kim at Dairy Queen when she worked there, and riding in her maroon Toyota Tercel. So many great, and not so great memories (like the time I colored Kim's brand new sheets with markers). Hehe. I was a lovely child.

So Kim, this post is a shout out. I hope your birthday was the best ever and I love you so much! :) You're amazing!
I designed her logo a couple of days ago, and now I'm working on her blog. Let me know what you guys think, and any critiquing is welcome as long as you're kind about it. Constructive criticism never hurt anyone.

Fox & Willowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12337435403746497154noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7334764133762506463.post-7385817008114354222010-02-17T00:12:00.001-06:002012-05-22T12:42:24.036-05:00"Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments."

This is so true, and I'm learning to apply this little quote in my day to day life. My pastor, Brother Holmes, preaches a lot about taking your flesh by the nape of the neck and making yourself do things that you don't want to do, whether it be praying everyday (yes, I think we all struggle with this at one point or another), fasting, getting a college degree, or cleaning your house. Sometimes we have to push our flesh to do things that we don't want to do. Usually the things we don't want to do are the things we should do, and the things we want to do are the things we shouldn't do.

Brother Holmes is so full of wisdom, and if there's anybody I'd love to pattern my life after it would be Brother Holmes. Prayer is another thing that he preaches about all of the time. It's something so simple, yet so incredibly life changing. If you take 30 minutes, just 30 minutes, out of your day to pray you'd be amazed at the results. $100,000 may not fall out of the heavens, and you may not get a brand new car or house, but the peaceful, joyful, clean feeling you have inside is irreplaceable.

Also another thing that Brother Holmes talks about a lot is God blessing our effort. God blesses effort! If you're wanting to start your own business, get your hands on as many books as you can and study. If you need a job, put on your best dress and hit the streets. I know from experience that God truly does bless our efforts, and for that I'm so thankful.

So, I hope these little tidbits of wisdom help you in the days to come, because they've sure helped me tremendously. Brother Holmes is one of the greatest examples of godliness and I'm so thankful for my pastor!

Oh, and one more thing that I think is so good to learn: Take care of the things that God has given you! You may not have a decked out Hummer or a brand new home, but that doesn't matter to God. He expects you to take care of the things he has entrusted to you. Even if your car is old, wash it and keep it clean (I'm still learning that one), and even if your furniture isn't brand new, make sure people don't spill food on it and the kids don't jump on it.Fox & Willowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12337435403746497154noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7334764133762506463.post-1136133788568299472010-02-11T18:32:00.001-06:002012-05-22T12:42:24.037-05:00I love snow days!

My ultimate dream home is a cozy, seaside (preferrably) cottage with white walls, airy colors, and weathered wood floors. Charming and comfortable.

On her blog, a lady described her decorating style as the four C's: Cozy, cottage, classic and coastal. If I were to describe my dream home, it would definitely be the four C's. Another thing that has really piqued my interest lately is painted furniture. Me and my mom completed our first piece of painted furniture and we are so thrilled with the outcome. We were on our weekly excursion to Savers to dig through the treasures and scope out the fresh batch of furniture when we ran across this adorable buffet style table for only $30, we grabbed it with aspirations to paint it white. We did just that, and it's adorable. I'll post pictures as soon as it's completely finished. We also purchased an adorable antique four-poster bed for $5 at a yard sale, and a cute coffee table at Savers, all of which we plan on painting white.

I've come across a lot of blogs having to do with cottage style decorating, so I'll share a couple here. First off, I love The Lettered Cottage (really digging the black cabinets in her cottage)! Also, my mom's friend (Karen Long) introduced us to Life In The Fun Lane which is a very fun blog, and the blog owner's store White Berry Reinvented. Check them out, and if you're in to painted furniture and light airy colors for decorating, you'll definitely enjoy these blogs. There's many more links on these blogs that are great to check out, as well!

I love The Lettered Cottage because they have before and after pictures of their house (or cottage). It was just a normal house before they got ahold of, and they transformed it in to an adorable, quaint cottage.

Feel free to comment and and let me know what your favorite style of decorating is, I'd love to hear about it!

**Note** I'll be posting pictures of our finished products as soon as possible, so make sure to check back soon. :)Fox & Willowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12337435403746497154noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7334764133762506463.post-76659892424330436602010-02-02T10:49:00.003-06:002012-05-22T12:42:24.037-05:00Kreativ Blogger Award

Well, I got nominated for the Kreativ Blogger Award by my wonderful, sweet, funny and beautiful cousin, Kim. But unlike her, I get to write about myself all the time on my blog since I don't have four wonderful kiddos to brag on, so this may be a little boring for you guys. So, I have to write down 7 things about myself that most of you don't know, eh?

Well, here goes nothing...

1. I was a...well...little bratty when I was little.

I'm sure you all are shocked! You see me as this sweet and angelic person, but when I was little I was the exact opposite. ;)

2. I have been to about 30 states.

New York, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Oregon, Nebraska...just to name a few.

3. I love anything antique or vintage.

I have 6 vintage coats, and counting. I have boots, purses, hats, headbands, luggage, and furniture, all of which are vintage. And the best part, I haven't paid over $30 for any item except for one coat. That's what's great about thrift stores and flea markets. I can pursue my love for finding vintage things...on a budget.

4. I can play the violin.

Hahaha! Are you done laughing?

5. I love learning about different countries, cultures and languages.

I would get books at the library about France, Italy, China, Russia, etc. I loved, and still do love learning about how people live, cook, work, and play. I would always quiz my family about the capitals of different countries, that was my way of feeling superior. ;) Someday I would love to live in a different country, I think that would be such an incredible experience. When I was younger I always dreamed about being a missionary.

6. I'm Italian.

My mom's family is from Italy. In fact, most of my cousins, aunts and uncles are still living there. My Aunt Mary only spoke Italian and she was deaf, but I remember going to her house with my grandma when I was little and while my grandma was "talking" to her (she lip read), I would make my mouth move like I was talking. My Aunt Mary would ask my grandma, "Is she trying to tell me something?" Hey, I was bored stiff. It was Sunrise Villa and the youngest people there were me and my grandma.

7. I love Christmas!!!!

I love the whole holiday season, but Christmas is my all-time favorite holiday.

WAKE UP!! Oh, hehe, I thought you fell asleep while reading this.
It's an impoverished place, with an estimated 80% of the population living in poverty. This poverty has forced nearly a quarter of a million Haitian children into slavery. It's a country that lacks proper education for its people, orphanages are full of children needing a permanent home, and diseases are rampant. Haiti has definitely seen its fair share of heartache.

Needless to say, even though they've seen sickness, disease, hunger and poverty, nothing could've prepared them for what happened to their country a few short weeks ago. After a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit, nearly 200,000 lives were lost within a few short days. And nearly 1 million people were left homeless, living on the streets with just the clothes on their back. Some, if not all, lost family members in the massive amounts of rubble. Mothers lost children, children lost parents, sisters lost brothers. Many were without food and water or medical attention. The wounded used makeshift bandages while they waited for doctors to arrive. And because the morgues were either too full, or reduced to nothing but rubble, countless bodies were piled, unidentified, in the streets. Bodies literally stacked upon bodies.

It's horrific. I think of the poor children that are now orphans, and the poor parents that lost their children, I can't even imagine the pain and suffering. People are waiting in long, long lines just to get food and decent water to drink. The stench is unbearable due to the massive amounts of bodies.

Stop, put yourself in their shoes. I saw a picture of a little child just laying in the midst of rubble, lifeless. It broke my heart and brought tears to my eyes. And I know there are many more sights and stories just like this.

Sometimes it's easy for us, sitting in our nice comfortable homes, to numb our minds to the pain and suffering that's going on even as I type this. We feel as if it's almost unreal...it's so far away. But think about those poor people, poor children that are in desperate need. Think about them, and after you're done reading this, say a prayer for them. You may not be able to go there and help physically, but we can do our part in saying a prayer for Haiti.

Wow. 2009 really flew by way too fast, but I'm looking forward to 2010. Starting a new year always seems to be...well...like you're getting a fresh start or something. Christmas is over (sniff), and we took down our decorations yesterday. I thought it was time to revamp my blog as well, since there was still Christmas music on it and a Christmas background.

I do hope you all have a wonderful New Year, and may God bless you all!
Much love!

P.S. And no, I have not made any resolutions. Is it too late? Resolution #1: Try to do things ON TIME! Great start.Fox & Willowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12337435403746497154noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7334764133762506463.post-23465824731425821942009-12-23T15:44:00.001-06:002012-05-22T12:42:24.038-05:00Merry Christmas {Happy New Year}

I hope everyone has a wonderful and blessed Christmas. I don't know about most of you, but for me it seems as though the Christmas season has just begun. It seems like I was just tuning the radio to B98.5 and getting that familiar warm feeling when I heard the Christmas tunes playing; it seems like I was just at Wal-Mart and could barely contain my excitement as I watched the workers putting out the Christmas decor. But alas, here I sit two days before Christmas. On December 26th, the Christmas spirit and hubbub will be over. There will no longer by Christmas tunes playing in the malls, there will no longer be the hustle and bustle and joy of the Christmas season, there will no longer be Christmas plays to attend. But I'm going to choose to make the Christmas spirit live on well beyond December 25th. After all, Jesus is the reason why we celebrate this joyous occasion. After saying that, I'll say that we have a reason to celebrate Christmas all year long, not just in December. Although, I do have to admit that I'll be slightly disappointed after Christmas day, knowing that it's all over {until next year, that is}.

Well folks, I hope you all have a wonderful and Merry Christmas, and blessed New Year. And remember, Jesus IS the reason for the season. God bless you all and much love!

Have been since I was little. When I was younger I always dreamed about helping animals, whether I was a veterinarian or whether I worked at a dog shelter, I always knew that I wanted to help them. A few years ago I volunteered at our local animal shelter (for about 1 hour due to dogs that walked me instead of me walking them). It was so sad seeing those poor animals that needed a loving home, a warm place to sleep, and a little TLC.

A few months ago I signed up at the HSUS website to receive their newsletter. Everyday my inbox is filled with terrible stories of puppy mills, dog fighting, animal neglect, etc. I want to share a couple of stories with you today. They're very, very sad.

We come across thousands of animals in the most desperate of situations in our work at The HSUS.

We step in wherever we can and save these animals from the worst kinds of human cruelty. These survivors drive us in our work, inspire us as we confront the individuals and industries that profit off of such callous mistreatment.

Today, you’ll meet Fay. Hers is the story of the worst of humankind, and I might say the best, too.

Fay was rescued last July in Missouri, where we assisted in raids in eight states to rescue dogs from the horrors of dogfighting. Fay’s mouth had apparently been badly wounded in the ring. In response, a dogfighter had mercilessly cut off her lips.

True to the spirit of humankind’s best friend, this animal who had suffered so much at the hands of people responded to her rescuers with unreserved affection. As you’ll see, Fay had been stripped of her lips but she still had a tongue, and she was happy to use it to lick the face of someone who would hold her close.
A Puppy Mill Story -
Working with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, The HSUS delivered more than 90 dogs from one of the most appalling settings we’ve dealt with in a while—and that’s saying something, since our team has done 16 puppy mill raids this year, and rescued nearly 3,000 dogs from the mass commercial breeding operations.

These dogs, mostly Pekingese, Yorkies and other small breeds, were suffering from severe matting, parasite infestation, eye injuries, and skin and dental infections. One older Pekingese was so matted that her hair was grown around the bars of her cage, like a vine wrapped around a fence. We had to literally cut her out of her wire prison. The property owner walked by this trapped dog every day and, evidently, was so emotionally disconnected from her suffering that she did nothing to mitigate the situation. Many of the dogs seemed to have little life in them—they were so emotionally traumatized by their fate. But dogs do have an amazing ability to rebound from such circumstances, if they are given the right care and heaping doses of love, and that is our great hope in this case.

These stories are just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. There are hundreds of stories about puppy mills with over 1000 dogs crammed in cages for their whole lives, stories of neglect and starvation, stories of dogfighting. It's good to be home after almost a month in California. If I'm completely honest, it's all very bittersweet. 50% of me is glad to be home, back in my own bed and my house...but 50% is terribly homesick for California. I miss my family and friends so much, they're all so wonderful and dear to me. So for the next week or so I'll be crying off and on, reminiscing the wonderful memories that we made. A lot happened in that 3 weeks, but the major thing was my brother getting married. It was a very sweet and beautiful wedding with close friends and family members. I got to see a lot of family whom I haven't seen for way too long. I also got to visit and hang out with some friends whom I've missed dreadfully. We were constantly busy from when my mom arrived up until we flew out on Tuesday morning. We had wedding preparations, rehearsal, a bunch of my family coming into town, THE WEDDING, visits with family and friends, etc. But before all of these things happened, our Summit group flew to Los Angeles and had a load of fun. We went to the beach, we shopped, we had church, we went to Knott's Berry Farm. I'll be sharing pictures of both parts of my trip, but I'll start out with the LA pictures. next up, my Sacramento pictures. I'm horrible about taking pictures so I didn't get nearly as many photos as I wanted of everybody. I missed a bunch of my cousins, my aunts and uncles, my friends...etc. I need to work on that! But here's a few that I DID take. I'll post more soon (as soon as I can get some people to send some to me). :)

This is truly the story of my life. I leave for california in about 15 hours, and guess what? I still haven't packed one item of clothing...one pair of shoes...or anything. I'm really good at this. So, why am I blogging when I should be packing? I don't know. I've made my list, I've taken care of my errands, I've pulled half of the clothes out of my closet to weed through them, I've cleaned...but I can't seem to get anything into my suitcase. I sit down to start packing, and guess what happens? There's always something else that needs to be done RIGHT then. Why am I like this? I don't know, to be honest.
Well, I guess I'll end this lame past so I can pack. Haha!
By the way, I can't wait to see all of my California family and friends. Only 4 more days until I see you all! :)Fox & Willowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12337435403746497154noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7334764133762506463.post-74111433489028587132009-09-08T16:23:00.005-05:002012-05-22T12:42:24.039-05:00Happy Birthday, Ashley Jean!I want to wish my precious little Ashley Jean a very, very happy 4th birthday.
